There is no single price for Umrah from Sweden. There are four lines that move independently: the flight, the visa, accommodation in Makkah and Madinah, and the transport between them. The gap between a lean trip and a comfortable one rarely comes from "the price of Umrah" — it comes from the distance between your hotel and the Haram, and from the week of the year you picked. This guide takes the lines apart one by one and explains what pushes each of them up and what brings it down. Then it covers the line almost every budget forgets, the one that only shows up on the bill after you get home: the cost of staying connected in Saudi Arabia. How much does Umrah from Sweden cost? The short answer
The honest way to estimate the cost is to build your own table, because every total published online belongs to somebody else's trip, on somebody else's dates, from somebody else's airport. The structure below is the one we recommend. Fill each line from its original source, and write the date you checked it next to the number — three of these lines move week to week.

Notice that the first three lines are paid before you leave and the last two while you are there. Travellers who budget only for what they prepay usually come home to a bigger total than they expected.
The cost lines, one by one
Flights from Stockholm, Göteborg and Malmö
Three factors drive the fare out of Sweden, in this order of impact: the date, the number of stops, and the departure airport. Direct flights from Sweden to Jeddah or Madinah are limited, and most routings go through one connection in the Gulf, in Türkiye or in central Europe. One stop usually lowers the fare and lengthens the journey; two stops lower it further and make the question of ihram more delicate, because you may pass the miqat at a point in the trip you had not planned for.
A practical point many people miss: leaving from Göteborg Landvetter or Malmö is not automatically more expensive than Stockholm Arlanda, and if you live in the south of Sweden, Copenhagen is a realistic fourth option. Compare all four airports on the same date before you book, and count the cost of getting to the airport inside the fare rather than beside it.
On ihram: travellers flying into Jeddah enter the state of ihram before passing the miqat, and cabin crew usually announce the approach; travellers who land first in Madinah have Dhu al-Hulayfah (Abyar Ali) as their miqat. Pack your ihram garments in your cabin bag rather than in the hold, especially on a connecting itinerary. For the detailed rulings, ask a qualified authority for fatwa — this is not the place for them.
The Umrah visa: how it works from Sweden
Before any number, the rule: the visa is issued through the official Saudi channel, and neither its conditions nor its fees should be taken from a blog or a group post. The requirements have changed more than once in recent years, and what was true two years ago may not be true today.
Four things to settle before you book, in this order: which visa route applies to your passport and to your residence in Sweden; how long that visa is valid and how long it lets you stay; whether you apply directly online or through an approved agency; and the official fee, kept strictly separate from any agency service fee. Mixing those last two is the single most common reason people conclude that "the visa is expensive".
All four answers live in one place, and it is not this article: Nusuk Umrah, the official Umrah platform run under the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. Open it yourself with your own nationality and your own country of residence, and read what it returns for you. These rules change, so check the values in force on the day you apply rather than trusting a figure written earlier — including ours. That is why you will find no visa amount, no processing time and no eligibility list written here: a stale visa figure does not cost you a few minutes, it can cost you the trip.

Accommodation in Makkah and Madinah: what moves the price
After flights, this is usually the largest line, and it is the one we refuse to attach a number to, because a number without context misleads. Here is what drives it, in order of impact:
- Distance to the Haram. This is the first variable by a wide margin. A hotel adjoining the Haram and a hotel twenty minutes' walk away are not in the same market. Ask yourself one question: how many times a day do you intend to pray at the Haram? If the answer is all five, you are genuinely buying proximity. If it is twice, you are paying for convenience you will not use.
- The season. Ramadan — and especially its last ten nights — is a different market from the rest of the year. Do not compare a Ramadan rate with an ordinary-month rate and conclude that one of them is a rip-off.
- Length of stay and how you split it. The number of nights in Makkah versus Madinah changes your total more than the hotel's star rating does.
- Occupancy. Quad or quintuple rooms are the standard way group trips bring this line down.
Getting between Jeddah, Makkah and Madinah
Three options in practice: the Haramain high-speed train, which links Madinah, King Abdullah Economic City, King Abdulaziz International Airport, Jeddah and Makkah; the coach; and private transfer. The train is faster and keeps to its timetable, the coach is cheaper, and private transfer suits family groups with a lot of luggage. Choose on group size and arrival time rather than on price alone: landing late at night with heavy bags changes the calculation completely.
We put no train fare on this page. It depends on the leg you take, the class you book, the departure time and how far ahead you book it, and it is revised — a figure printed here would be quoted back as fact long after it had stopped being true. Read it where it is sold: the Haramain High Speed Railway's own site, hhr.sa, which shows the timetable and the fare for your own date before you pay. When we checked on 29 August 2026, the operator published no fare table at all: the price appears only once you run a search for a specific train, on a specific day. So any fixed table of Haramain fares you find elsewhere comes from a third party rather than from the railway, and the ones in circulation do not agree with each other. Two habits are worth more than any number we could give you: fix your flight times first and book the train around them, and buy on the operator's site rather than through a reseller, so that a change of plan is settled with the operator directly.
Package through an agency, or arranging it yourself?
We will not recommend an agency and we do not rank them: we have neither the data nor the standing, and we are not a travel agency. But the difference between the two routes can be described precisely, and it is a difference in risk and in time before it is a difference in price.
An agency package buys you one known price, coordination between the flight, the visa, the hotel and the transfers, and a guide who knows the way. In exchange you lose flexibility on hotel and timing, and you may pay for services you do not need. Always ask for the package in writing: exactly what is included, what is excluded, the cancellation policy, and the licence number.
Arranging it yourself gives you full control over every line and usually a lower total if you are good at booking early. The price is your time, and your responsibility when something goes wrong: a visa that came late, a hotel further out than the photos suggested, a train time that does not match the flight.
The practical rule: first-time travellers, and anyone travelling with elderly parents or small children, lean towards an agency for good reasons. Someone who has performed Umrah before and travels alone or as a couple will usually save by arranging it themselves without losing anything.
The best time for Umrah from Sweden
Ramadan: the peak and the reason for it
Ramadan is the highest-demand season for Umrah, and the last ten nights are the peak of the peak. Everything rises at once: the fare, the room, and the crowd inside the Haram. Ramadan 1448 is expected to begin around 8 February 2027 according to the Umm al-Qura calendar, the official calendar of the Kingdom — but the start is announced officially after the moon sighting and typically shifts by a day. Treat it as expected, not fixed, and book months ahead rather than weeks.
For anyone living in Sweden, Ramadan has one specific advantage: it falls in the middle of the Scandinavian winter, when daylight is short and school holidays may overlap. Its drawback is that several thousand other people are making exactly the same calculation.
Outside the peak
Umrah can be performed all year round. The months right after the Hajj season, and the months furthest from European school holidays, are usually the quietest on both price and crowding. Against that, summer in Makkah and Madinah is hot enough to belong in the plan rather than in the small talk: anyone travelling with an elderly or unwell companion should weigh the heat before weighing the price.
In every case, booking early brings down both flights and accommodation — the two largest lines. That is the most reliable rule in this entire subject.
Staying connected during Umrah: what it actually costs from Sweden
This is the line we know better than any other, so we write it in more detail. It is also the only line in this guide where we speak in our own name rather than relaying an official source.
Why Roam like at home does not apply in Saudi Arabia
The EU roaming regime known as "Roam like at home", which lets you use your Swedish plan in Spain or Germany at no extra charge, applies inside the European Union and the European Economic Area. Saudi Arabia is entirely outside that zone. The data plan you are used to in Sweden does not travel with you to Makkah, and what you use there is billed at a separate international roaming rate set by your operator.
This is where the most common surprise comes from: the traveller assumes the phone "works as usual", uses maps and video calls home the way they would in Stockholm, and then the invoice arrives.
Roaming rates with Swedish operators
Every operator sets its own rate for Saudi Arabia, and some offer an optional daily or weekly roaming pass. Do not rely on a number someone passed on to you: open your own operator's official rate page before you travel, look specifically for Saudi Arabia, for the per-megabyte price outside any pass, and for the automatic spend cap if there is one.
That page is the only one that gives you your own number, and there is no Swedish rate to look up instead of it. Telia, Tele2, Comviq, Telenor and Halebop each set their own price for Saudi Arabia; they differ from one another, they differ between plans on the same network, and they are revised. So we quote none of them here — a rate we printed today would be repeated back to you as fact long after it stopped being true, and this is the one chapter of this guide where we speak in our own name. Read yours on your own operator's page, write down the date you read it, and check two things beside the per-megabyte price: whether a daily or weekly roaming pass exists on your plan, and whether an automatic spend cap is applied.
Until you have checked those pages, there is one step that helps in every case: turn data roaming off in your phone settings before you fly, and turn it back on deliberately once you have decided how you will connect.
The alternative: a Saudi Arabia eSIM
The second route is to buy a local Saudi data plan as an eSIM and install it before you leave Sweden. The eSIM runs on the STC, Mobily and Zain networks — the same networks residents of the Kingdom use — and activates on arrival, with no queue at the airport and no local registration to complete while you are in ihram.
In practice that means you walk out of arrivals in Jeddah or Madinah already connected: maps work, the ride-hailing app works, and the message telling your family you have landed goes out before you reach the hotel. Your Swedish number stays in the phone for bank verification codes, because the eSIM is added alongside your existing SIM rather than replacing it.

And if you pick an unlimited plan, you are entitled to know its limits before you buy rather than after: 2 GB per day at full speed, then the connection continues at 1 Mbit/s until the end of the day, and the allowance resets the next day. Nothing is cut off and no overage is billed. That speed is enough for messaging, maps, voice calls, email and browsing; it is not enough for high-quality video streaming. We say it this plainly because the sentence nobody says before the purchase is the one everybody says in the review afterwards.

- Passport valid for the period the official authority requires, with a digital copy on your phone and in your email.

Frequently asked questions
Will my phone work in Makkah?
Yes — coverage in Makkah, Madinah and the holy sites is good. The question is not whether it works but at what rate. If you stay on your Swedish plan you are roaming internationally, outside the scope of Roam like at home. If you install a Saudi Arabia eSIM you are on a local network at a price you knew before you left.
Does Roam like at home cover Saudi Arabia?
No. The regime applies inside the European Union and the European Economic Area, and Saudi Arabia is outside both. What you use there is billed at the international roaming rate your Swedish operator sets.
Should I buy the eSIM before I travel or after I land?
Before. You buy and install it on Wi-Fi in Sweden, then activate it on arrival. Buying it after landing assumes you already have a connection — which is the problem you are trying to solve.
Will I lose my Swedish number if I use an eSIM?
No. The eSIM is added alongside your existing SIM, and your Swedish number stays active for calls and bank verification codes. Only your data goes through the new plan.
When is the cheapest time to perform Umrah from Sweden?

How long should an Umrah trip be?
There is no required length. Performing Umrah itself does not take a full day; the length of the trip is decided by how many nights you want in Makkah and in Madinah. Splitting the trip between the two cities is the most common pattern, and every additional night goes straight onto the accommodation line.
Do I need an approved agency for Umrah from Sweden?
It depends on the visa route that applies to your situation, and that is exactly the kind of point that changes — check it on Nusuk Umrah at the time you travel, not a year ahead. An agency buys you coordination and a safety net; arranging it yourself buys you flexibility and usually a lower price.
Can I take children on Umrah from Sweden?
